Auto Accidents

Have you or someone you know been injured in a car accident? Unfortunately, sooner or later you or someone you know will very likely be involved in a car accident. In the United States alone there are nearly 7 million automobile accidents every year. Suffering an injury and enduring the trauma of a motor vehicle accident can be stressful.  Injuries from whiplash can range from minor to severe and debilitating resulting in a loss of enjoyment of everyday life activities, loss of time from work and school, and trips to multiple healthcare providers in search of answers for the pain and disability.

Many people involved in low impact car accidents with no damage or little damage to the vehicles involved may believe their car accident injuries are minor and will just go away on their own.  What they might not realize is that symptoms of musculoskeletal, connective tissue and/or nervous system injuries may not appear for days after an automobile accident.  Even if the accident was a “minor fender bender” the physical forces involved are often enough to damage connective tissues of the spine and other joints. “Whiplash” suddenly and violently forces the body in one direction and then just as suddenly back in the opposite direction much like the cracking of a whip. “Whiplash” injuries can affect every region of the spine; the neck, middle back, low back, pelvic joints and result in pain that radiates or is referred to the head, arms and legs.

Virtually any auto accident could cause injuries that result in significant pain due to the forces involved that cause trauma to connective and other soft tissues or even bone.  Tears to spinal ligaments, intervertebral disc herniation’s, vertebral subluxations and dislocations, spinal compression fractures, concussion, pinched and overly stretched nerves are all common in low-speed collisions causing minimal damage to the vehicle.

It is critical to have your automobile accident injuries evaluated by a doctor with experience, understanding, education and training in evaluating, diagnosing and treating traumatic injuries.  Due to the forces involved injuries from car accidents are different than; neck pain, back pain, headaches, and radiculopathy; from non-traumatic causes or spinal degeneration.
